Richard Michael Dunton

May 22, 1946 ~ June 10, 2019 (age 73)

Richard Michael Dunton of Elk Grove, CA passed away June 10, 2019.  Richard was born May 22, 1946, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Richard served in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War as a Petty Officer Second Class. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked for the City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin as a Police Officer. Richard spent most of his career (24 years) working for Child Protective Services as a Social Worker and Supervisor in Wisconsin and later in Arizona. He retired from the State of Arizona as a Supervising Social Worker in 2002 and relocated to California to be closer to his children.  In California, Richard worked as a Family Law Mediator/Investigator for San Joaquin Superior Court until retirement in 2009.

Richard lived a life dedicated to serving others.  Over the years he served as a 4-H Leader, taught Confirmation Classes for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kingman, AZ, along with his wife started one of the first HIV/AIDS Support Groups in Kingman, AZ, and volunteered at the annual Thanksgiving food drive for St. Christopher’s Church in Galt, CA.  He was an active member of Good Shepard Catholic Church in Elk Grove, CA. He was a dedicated Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother.

Richard was avid marksman who enjoyed competitive shooting and won multiple awards as a pistol shooter while serving as a Police Officer.  Over his lifetime he had several dogs which he was dedicated to loving them and giving them the best lives possible.  

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, Leo and Marguerite Dunton. He is in survived in death by his beloved chow chow, Amos; Wife of 51 years, Karen Dunton; Children, Kelly Radabaugh (Chad), Ryan Dunton (Estela); Grandson, Maddux Radabaugh; Brothers, Leo Dunton (Sharon) and John Dunton (Cathy).  Burial Service will be held July 9th, 2019 11:00am at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Kaiser Permanente Hospice-South Sacramento, a Children’s Charity of your choice or become a Blood Donor (go to www.vitalant.org for more information on where and how to donate).
